Putting Molding Around Bathroom Mirror: A Step-by-Step Guide

Adding molding around your bathroom mirror is an excellent way to upgrade its style and make it a focal point of the room. It's a relatively simple DIY project that can be completed in a few hours with minimal tools and materials.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you put molding around your bathroom mirror:

Materials You'll Need

  • Molding of your choice (wood, MDF, PVC)
  • Miter saw or miter box
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Adhesive (liquid nails or construction adhesive)
  • Caulk gun
  • Caulk

Step 1: Measure and Cut the Molding

Use a measuring tape to determine the length of each side of the molding that will surround the mirror. Mark these measurements on the molding with a pencil.

Using a miter saw or miter box, cut 45-degree angles at the ends of the molding. This will allow the pieces to fit together seamlessly at the corners.

Step 2: Dry Fit the Molding

Place the molding pieces around the mirror without using any adhesive. This will allow you to check for a proper fit and make any necessary adjustments to the cuts.

Once you are satisfied with the fit, remove the molding pieces.

Step 3: Apply Adhesive

Apply a thin bead of adhesive to the back of the molding pieces. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific adhesive you are using.

Step 4: Install the Molding

Carefully place the molding pieces around the mirror, aligning them with the edges. Press firmly to ensure a good bond.

Use a damp cloth to remove any excess adhesive that may squeeze out.

Step 5: Caulk the Joints

Once the molding is installed, caulk the joints between the molding and the wall. This will help seal the gaps and prevent moisture from getting trapped.

Smooth the caulk with a wet finger or a caulking tool.

Step 6: Finish the Molding

Once the caulk has dried, you can finish the molding by painting or staining it if desired. This will give it a polished look and help it match the rest of the bathroom décor.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed molding around your bathroom mirror.
