How to Construct Your Own Mirrored Nightstand

Mirrored nightstands are both stylish and practical, adding a touch of glamour to your bedroom while providing storage space for your essentials. While they may appear intimidating to make, they are surprisingly straightforward to construct with the right materials and a little patience. Here is a detailed guide to help you create your own mirrored nightstand:

Materials:

  • Mirror (cut to the desired size)
  • Plywood or MDF (for the base and frame)
  • Wood glue
  • Clamps
  • Nails or screws
  • Hammer or drill
  • Finishing nails
  • Wood filler
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint or stain (optional)

Tools:

  • Circular saw or jigsaw
  • Drill
  • Hammer
  • Clamps
  • Sanding block
  • Measuring tape

Step 1: Cut the Plywood or MDF

Cut the plywood or MDF to the desired size for the base and frame of the nightstand. The base should be slightly smaller than the mirror, and the frame should be the same size as the mirror.

Step 2: Assemble the Frame

Apply wood glue to the edges of the frame pieces and clamp them together. Secure them with nails or screws. Make sure the frame is square by measuring the diagonals. If they are not equal, adjust the frame until they are.

Step 3: Attach the Base

Apply wood glue to the top of the base and center the frame on top. Clamp the base and frame together and secure them with nails or screws. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Step 4: Attach the Mirror

Apply a generous amount of wood glue to the back of the mirror and center it on the frame. Press the mirror firmly into place and secure it with finishing nails. Countersink the nails slightly below the surface of the mirror to prevent them from scratching you.

Step 5: Fill and Sand

Fill any gaps or nail holes with wood filler. Allow the wood filler to dry completely and sand it smooth. You can also sand the entire nightstand to remove any rough edges.

Step 6: Finish

If desired, you can paint or stain the nightstand to match your bedroom decor. Allow the finish to dry completely before using the nightstand.

Tips:

  • Use a safety glass mirror or tempered glass for added durability.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves when cutting the mirror or glass.
  • If you are not comfortable cutting the mirror yourself, you can have it cut at a glass shop.
  • Be patient and take your time to ensure that the nightstand is assembled correctly.
  • Use a level to make sure that the nightstand is level before securing the mirror.

Conclusion:

With a little effort and attention to detail, you can create a beautiful and functional mirrored nightstand that will add a touch of elegance to your bedroom. Whether you choose to paint or stain it to match your existing decor or leave it with a natural finish, this nightstand is sure to become a cherished piece in your home.
