How to Frame a Mirror with Trim

Framing a mirror with trim is a great way to add style and sophistication to any room. It's a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours.

Tools and Materials You'll Need:

Measuring tape
Pencil
Miter saw
Nail gun
Wood glue
Trim molding
Paint or stain (optional)

Measuring the Mirror and Cutting the Trim

Start by measuring the perimeter of your mirror. Once you have the measurement, subtract 2 inches to account for the width of the trim. This will give you the length of trim you need to cut.

Next, cut the trim to length using a miter saw. Make sure to cut the trim at a 45-degree angle so that the pieces fit together properly.

Attaching the Trim to the Mirror

Apply a thin bead of wood glue to the back of one of the trim pieces. Press the trim piece into place around the edge of the mirror. Repeat this process with the remaining trim pieces, making sure to miter the corners.

Once all of the trim pieces are in place, secure them with nails. Use a nail gun to drive the nails into the trim at an angle. Countersink the nails slightly so that they are flush with the surface of the trim.

Finishing the Frame

If desired, you can paint or stain the frame to match the décor of your room. Allow the paint or stain to dry completely before hanging the mirror.

Hanging the Mirror

To hang the mirror, use two heavy-duty mirror hangers. Place the hangers on the back of the mirror, making sure they are evenly spaced. Mark the location of the hangers on the wall and then drill pilot holes.

Insert screws into the pilot holes and tighten them until the hangers are secure. Hang the mirror on the screws.
