How to Add Framing to a Mirror Accurately

Custom framing can add a touch of elegance and style to any mirror, and it's a relatively easy task that can be completed in just a few hours. With the right tools and materials, you can create a beautiful framed mirror that will complement any décor.

Materials:

  • Mirror
  • Frame
  • Measuring tape
  • Level
  • Pencil
  • Brad nailer or hammer and nails
  • Wood filler
  • Paint or stain (optional)

Instructions:

1. Measure and mark the frame: Use the measuring tape to determine the length and width of the mirror. Add 2 inches to the length and width to account for the overlap of the frame. Mark these measurements on the frame using the pencil.

2. Cut the frame: Using a miter saw, cut the frame at 45-degree angles at the marked measurements. This will create a beveled edge that will fit together snugly.

3. Assemble the frame: Place the four pieces of the frame together, making sure that the beveled edges are facing inward. Hold the frame together with the brad nailer or hammer and nails, being careful not to nail through the mirror.

4. Attach the mirror to the frame: Place the mirror inside the frame, making sure that it is centered and level. Use the brad nailer or hammer and nails to attach the mirror to the frame.

5. Fill the nail holes: Use wood filler to fill in the nail holes. Allow the wood filler to dry completely, then sand it smooth.

6. Paint or stain the frame (optional): If desired, you can paint or stain the frame to match the décor. Allow the paint or stain to dry completely before hanging the mirror.

7. Hang the mirror: Use the level to ensure that the mirror is hanging straight. Use the appropriate hardware for the type of wall you are hanging the mirror on.

Tips:

  • Use a high-quality frame that is made of durable materials.
  • Take your time and measure carefully to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Use a brad nailer for a more professional finish.
  • If you are not confident in your ability to frame a mirror, you can hire a professional.

Framing a mirror is a great way to add style and personality to your home. By following these steps, you can create a beautiful framed mirror that will be enjoyed for years to come.
