How to Build a Frame Around a Bathroom Mirror
Adding a frame to a bathroom mirror is a simple and effective way to update the look of your bathroom. It's also a relatively inexpensive project that can be completed in a few hours. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to build a frame around a bathroom mirror:
Materials you'll need:
- 1x2 pine boards
- Wood glue
- Finishing nails
- Hammer or nail gun
- Mitre saw
- Sandpaper
- Paint or stain (optional)
Step 1: Measure and cut the boards
Measure the width and height of your mirror, and then cut four 1x2 pine boards to these measurements. Use a mitre saw to cut 45-degree angles on the ends of the boards.
Step 2: Assemble the frame
Apply wood glue to the mitered edges of the boards, and then join them together to form a frame. Use finishing nails to secure the boards in place.
Step 3: Sand and finish the frame
Sand the frame to smooth out any rough edges. If desired, you can paint or stain the frame to match your bathroom décor.
Step 4: Attach the frame to the mirror
Apply a bead of silicone caulk to the back of the frame, and then press the frame onto the mirror.
Step 5: Let the caulk dry
Allow the caulk to dry completely before using the mirror.
Tips:
- For a more secure hold, you can use wood screws instead of finishing nails.
- If you're not sure how to cut mitered angles, you can purchase pre-cut mitered boards at your local hardware store.
- You can customize the look of your frame by using different types of wood, paint, or stain.
