How to Glue a Frame Around a Mirror
Adding a frame to a mirror is a great way to update its look and make it match your décor. It's a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours. Here are the steps on how to do it:
Materials you'll need:
- Mirror
- Frame
- Wood glue
- Clamps
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Pencil
- Sandpaper (optional)
- Hammer and nails (optional)
Instructions:
- Measure and cut the frame: Measure the perimeter of the mirror and add about 2 inches to allow for overlap. Cut the frame to this length using a miter saw or a handsaw.
- Sand the frame (optional): If the frame is unfinished, you may want to sand it to smooth out any rough edges.
- Apply wood glue to the frame: Apply a thin layer of wood glue to the inside edge of the frame.
- Place the mirror on the frame: Carefully place the mirror on the frame, making sure that it is centered.
- Clamp the frame: Use clamps to hold the frame in place while the glue dries. You may need to use several clamps, depending on the size of the mirror.
- Let the glue dry: Allow the glue to dry completely, according to the manufacturer's instructions. This may take several hours.
- Remove the clamps: Once the glue is dry, remove the clamps.
- Hammer in nails (optional): For added security, you may want to hammer in a few nails through the frame into the mirror. This is especially helpful for larger mirrors.
Your framed mirror is now complete! Hang it on the wall and enjoy its new look.
Tips:
- Use a high-quality wood glue that is specifically designed for mirrors.
- Make sure that the frame is the correct size for the mirror. It should overlap the mirror by about 1 inch on each side.
- If the frame is not the correct size, you can use a miter saw or a handsaw to make adjustments.
- Be careful not to apply too much glue. Too much glue can cause the mirror to become cloudy.
- Allow the glue to dry completely before removing the clamps.
- If you are framing a large mirror, you may want to ask for help from a friend or family member.
