How to Hang a Metal Framed Mirror

Metal-framed mirrors are a stylish and versatile addition to any home, but hanging them can be a daunting task. However, with the right tools and a bit of patience, you can do it yourself in just a few simple steps.

Materials You'll Need:

  • Metal-framed mirror
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Level
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • Drywall anchors (optional, if hanging on drywall)

Step 1: Determine the Placement

Start by determining where you want to hang your mirror. Use the measuring tape and pencil to mark the desired height and location on the wall.

Step 2: Find the Wall Studs

If possible, hang the mirror on wall studs for maximum support. Use a stud finder to locate the studs.

Step 3: Mark the Screw Holes

Measure the distance between the mounting brackets on the back of the mirror and mark the screw holes on the wall accordingly. Use a level to ensure the marks are straight.

Step 4: Drill Pilot Holes

Drill pilot holes at the marked locations. The pilot holes should be slightly smaller than the screws you will be using.

Step 5: Insert Drywall Anchors (if necessary)

If you are hanging the mirror on drywall, insert drywall anchors into the pilot holes. This will provide additional support for the screws.

Step 6: Drive in the Screws

Drive the screws into the pilot holes or drywall anchors until they are secure. Leave a small gap between the screw heads and the wall so that the mirror can be adjusted as needed.

Step 7: Hang the Mirror

Lift the mirror and align it with the mounting brackets. Gently push the mirror up against the wall until it is securely in place.

Step 8: Adjust the Mirror

If necessary, use the screws to slightly adjust the position or angle of the mirror until it is level and plumb.

Tips:

  • For heavy mirrors, use larger screws and more anchors for added support.
  • If the wall is too hard to drill into, you may need to use toggle bolts or molly bolts.
  • Consider using adhesive mounting strips or mirror hanging clips for smaller or lighter mirrors.
  • Always wear safety glasses when drilling.
