How to Create a Free-Standing Full-Length Mirror

Mirrors are essential accessories for any home, and a full-length mirror is a must-have for getting dressed, checking your appearance, and adding depth to a room. While full-length mirrors can be expensive to purchase, they are surprisingly easy to make yourself. With a few simple steps and a little bit of inexpensive materials, you can create a beautiful and functional free-standing full-length mirror that will look great in any space.

Materials You'll Need:

  • A large mirror (at least 60 inches tall and 24 inches wide)
  • 1x4 pine boards (cut to the height and width of the mirror)
  • Wood glue
  • Clamps
  • Sandpaper
  • Wood filler
  • Paint or stain (optional)
  • Mirror adhesive
  • Screws

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Build the Frame

Cut the 1x4 pine boards to the height and width of the mirror. Apply wood glue to the edges of the boards and clamp them together to form a frame. Leave the clamps on for at least 30 minutes, or until the glue has dried completely.

2. Sand and Fill

Once the glue has dried, sand the frame smooth. Use sandpaper to remove any splinters or rough edges. Apply wood filler to any gaps or holes in the frame and let it dry completely. Sand the wood filler smooth once it has dried.

3. Paint or Stain (Optional)

If desired, you can paint or stain the frame to match your décor. Allow the paint or stain to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

4. Attach the Mirror

Apply mirror adhesive to the back of the mirror and carefully place it inside the frame. Use a level to make sure the mirror is straight before pressing it into place. Allow the adhesive to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.

5. Reinforce the Frame

To make the frame more sturdy, screw the frame into the mirror. Use screws that are long enough to penetrate both the frame and the mirror. Countersink the screws slightly so that they are flush with the surface of the frame.

6. Stand It Up

Your free-standing full-length mirror is now complete! Place it in a desired location and enjoy the convenience of having a full-length mirror in your home.
