How to Use Wire to Hang Heavy Mirrors

Hanging a heavy mirror on the wall can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. By following a few simple steps, you can have your mirror securely in place and looking its best.

Materials You'll Need:

Heavy-duty wire
D-rings or mirror clips
Screws and anchors (if needed)
Level
Pencil

Step 1: Determine the Placement

Decide where you want to hang the mirror and mark the location with a pencil. Use a level to ensure that the mirror will be hanging straight.

Step 2: Install the D-Rings or Mirror Clips

Attach D-rings or mirror clips to the back of the mirror. These will provide the points for the wire to hang from. Make sure they are evenly spaced and securely fastened.

Step 3: Cut the Wire

Determine the length of wire needed by measuring the distance between the D-rings or mirror clips and adding a few inches for wiggle room. Cut the wire to the measured length.

Step 4: Thread the Wire

Thread the wire through the D-rings or mirror clips, making sure it goes through both sides. Leave a small loop at each end of the wire.

Step 5: Hang the Mirror

Hammer screws into the wall at the marked location. If the wall requires it, use anchors first. Hang the mirror on the screws by hooking the loops of wire over them.
