DIY White Mirrored Cabinet Doors: A Step-by-Step Guide for a Stunning Update
Give your cabinetry a makeover with custom white mirrored cabinet doors. This DIY project is not only budget-friendly but also adds a touch of elegance to any room. Follow these step-by-step instructions to create your own stunning mirrored doors.
Materials You'll Need:
- Mirror glass cut to the size of your cabinet doors
- White paint or primer
- Wood filler
- Sandpaper
- Caulk
- Wood glue
- Clamps
- Screws or nails
- Door handles or knobs
Step 1: Prepare the Frame
Remove the existing cabinet doors and frames. Fill any holes or imperfections with wood filler and let dry. Sand the frames to remove any rough edges or splinters. Apply a coat of white paint or primer and let it dry completely.
Step 2: Apply Mirror Glass
Apply a thin layer of wood glue to the back of the mirror glass. Carefully place the glass onto the frame and align it evenly. Apply clamps around the glass to secure it while the glue dries. Leave the clamps on for at least 24 hours.
Step 3: Seal the Edges
Once the glue is dry, remove the clamps and apply a bead of caulk around the edges of the glass. Smooth the caulk with your finger or a wet sponge to create a waterproof seal.
Step 4: Install Handles or Knobs
Drill holes in the frame for the door handles or knobs. Apply a small amount of wood glue to the back of the handles or knobs and screw or nail them into place.
Step 5: Reinstall Doors
Apply a bead of caulk to the top and bottom of the frame. Place the mirrored doors onto the cabinets and align them evenly. Press the doors firmly into place and wipe away any excess caulk. Allow the caulk to dry completely before using the doors.
Tips for Success:
- Measure carefully before cutting the mirror glass.
- Use a sharp utility knife to score the glass before snapping it.
- Wear safety glasses and gloves when working with glass.
- Allow ample time for the glue and caulk to dry completely.
- Protect the finished doors with a protective coating, such as clear lacquer.
